about
'Dear Jack' is about the complex nature of relationships. Wanting to find your independence, yet still wanting to have a partner you can love and cherish. 'Dear Jack' is about acknowledging and appreciating the work that goes into commitment.
Dear Jack's name references a character from Titanic, in which Rose has to let Jack (the love of her life) go when the ship was sinking. It is a heart-wrenching moment. It has been highly debated that the door she was floating on might have had room for him and they both could've lived happily ever after.
This song explores metaphors of the alternative. It's from Rose's perspective had she not let him go--and also explores the parallels between the character 'Rose' within Kristal Cherelle.
lyrics
Hook:
It ain't what you think
I know that it seems we're falling down
but I'm not walking out no
Verse 1:
I got two feet
no one else can walk for me
but I sure love the company
i'm choosy
too afraid of redundancy,
appreciate the simple things
you see
every side of me all that I try to be
and I fail sometimes
it don't mean I ain't trying
Hook:
It ain't what you think
I know that it seems we're falling down
but I'm not walking out no
It aint what it seems
looking like we're on the brink of sinking down
but it ain't over now no
Verse 2:
I got 2 feet
and hands that keep reaching for you
ears that just don't hear the truth
I'm broken
every piece of my broken heart
turns into deeper scars
Verse 3:
baby it's not over yet
i know sometimes we regret it
wishing that we never met
we know we'll never forget it
being here in the first place
standing here in the worst-case scenario
Hook:
It ain't what you think
I know that it seems we're falling down
but I'm not walking out no
It aint what it seems
looking like we're on the brink of sinking down
but it ain't over now no
Bridge:
I've had my doubts
been through too much to throw in the towel
we're just trying to figure it out
somehow
Hook:
It ain't what you think
I know that it seems we're falling down
but I'm not walking out no
It ain't what it seems
looking like we're on the brink of sinking down
but it ain't over now, no
outro:
can we not get hysterical
can we listen in stereo
I need you to know...I love you so
